Clothes Shopping Headaches

When you are in the process of losing weight, shopping for clothes becomes a confusing business. Do you buy something that fits now… or a smaller size to fit you later? The sales racks usually solve that quandary by only having garments in this size or that, but most of the time you decide the sensible thing to do is not buy anything unless necessary. So you go around looking at things and leaving the shops empty-handed. I have done a lot of that lately… in all sorts of shops!

It annoys me (when I should be grateful) when Mum buys things and brings them home and gives them to me, and they are things that fit today but won’t tomorrow (if all goes according to plan!) The other day I was doing a wash of skirts in three different sizes plus a Free Size (draw-string waist) — but I suppose that happens to everyone anyway!

Something I’ve wanted to grumble about for ages: when you’re in the women’s section buying things that you don’t talk about too loudly… You find a rack of them in various different sizes, and you look for your size. Sounds simple enough. Till you realize that the more XL and less fit you are, the more you have to stoop (red-faced) to sort through these sizes at a lower level of the rack! All the light, perky sizes are on the top, and the bigger ones are on the bottom.

Do you think the shops ever stop to think about how it might feel to have to deal with an emergency when some unfit, older, larger lady collapses because of stooping for too long?! After all, it’s always a possibility… whereas the fitter, sportier women just pluck their sizes off the rack at eye-level. Doesn’t seem right to me…

Meanwhile weight loss is still ongoing. Slow and steady. That’s how we’re supposed to do it, just as the original gain was slow and steady! Clothes look baggy now — tops and sweaters as well as skirts. Maybe that’s why Mum’s looking for things in my current size rather than a future one! She doesn’t want to be seen around town with a heap of perambulating tablecloths. But it’s only for a little while…
