How odd...I've never heard of Quern so I can't comment.
Maybe someone you knew or babysat you or who was a friend of the family listened to it when you were around.
I know I was strangely surprised that, at a 5440 concert this summer, I found I knew most of their songs. I have no interest in them really...then I remembered I had a roommate way back when who liked to listen to them in his room sometimes...guess you pick up more than you think when you're not paying attention.

I have an old grey 3-tier contraption on my desk here. There's a large cuddly sloth sitting on the top tier, wearing a denim shirt. A few days ago that spot was occupied by a small bear from New Zealand (made out of tea towels) and a Russ Berrie cat with large eyes. I hope none of them are nursing monster bees. :)

I like the idea of actors specializing in voice roles and never actually appearing... that's more how I tend to think of the animated films. I never used to think of them as a province for movie stars.

That's curious, as Samson loves a dripping tap, which is why we got him the fountain. Perhaps cats who drink from taps also drink from toilet bowls!

I prefer when I can't recognise the voice talent in films. Same with actors in movies. It kind of takes me out of the story when I know who it is...

Our one cat will still drink out of the toilet if we let him...which we don't. It just...um...comes back for us to clean up later. No fun for either of us. He does still drink from the dripping tap downstairs.

LOL, I think we all edit out work. :-) Sometimes blogs edit out work just by being. Perhaps writers of all kinds write to escape things as much as focus on things... have just been watching dramatizations about Enid Blyton. You end up with the feeling that, though she said her hundreds of books were all written for children, they were actually written so she could escape (and she's not alone in that).

That's true, Geo, it's always interesting reading what people think, especially when they spread their net and don't rant constantly about the same thing (which sometimes I wonder if I do!)

I've found that although I do censor myself a bit, my blog ends up being whatever is in my head a the time spewed out on the internet. I'm always interested when people actually bother to read it :) Sometimes I rant, sometimes I talk about life and other dull things, but I'm finding it odd. I don't want to be negative or just make this a personal diary...a while back I put my fitness stuff into a separate fitness blog and recipes into a cooking blog...and I'm starting to feel somewhat fractured...and yet I can't bring myself to link them back together...yet.
I like reading little blurbs about people's lives and what they think...I'm always fascinated by the opinions of other people. A bit like window peeping into someone else's mind...but not in a creepy way :)

Thanks, TLB. :) I think some of the more successful personal blogs sound like conversations... I suppose they're very warm. If we have some sort of axe to grind, the blog becomes a little more scary.

I think one of the valuable things about reading blogs is learning about other people's joys and tribulations first hand. Blogs let you know what people feel and think in a way that casual observance and even conversation sometimes can't.

"we’re supposed to focus on changing our behaviour and the way we look at things."

If they are taught to do that in all situations, then it just goes to show how much everything is geared towards people who are seen as 'average' - even the help most needed by those who aren't.

Pacian, I can imagine people snorting that guy. :D

Geo, what are the subtitles like in foreign films (the sound effects bit?) Are they like 'paf!' in Asterix and Obelix? LOL. (Talking of which, I could do with watching those again; they're fun).

I've a feeling my memory got confused and it wasn't snooker, it was bowls. To me they're equally dull, though I suppose bowls has the edge over snooker... it makes more sense to the uninitiated spectator.

I would have a lot of difficulty with that...I don't mind subtitles, I don't wee how you can follow a show properly if the dialog is totally unmatched to the acting...
I have enough trouble when we rent foreign films and the subtitles include sound effects...
Is there nothing they can do to fix them? I don't see why editing the video would put that track out of sync...but then I'm not a techie.
I've never quite gotten snooker on TV. It's' like watching poker on TV> I'll play either, but to watch others play just has no appeal for me...same with golf...and most sports really.
Silly...

Thanks for the comments; sorry I was slow getting back to this!

I loved Dark Crystal; watched it a couple of times. Would probably have seen it more, but the video we bought back then had no captions. Star Wars I've been more iffy about, but I like the more recent ones.

I watched Amelie once; at the moment I can only remember something about chocolates and photographs. It might be worth watching again.

I've been thinking about this topic a lot while watching TV recently; films do handle it in different ways; I think it could be some of the more mindless adventure films that annoyed me, but even there we'll find some depth and the odd touching moment. :)

Recently watched Miss Congeniality; Sandra Bullock as a tough FBI woman under cover in a beauty pageant. She starts out being tough and plain-speaking, but even then probably wasn't as bad as some women in real life! But I like the fact that she ends up realizing the girls in the beauty contest are just ordinary human beings... no worse or better than anyone else.

Interesting theory there...I've not really thought too much about it before, even though I studied theatre/film for a while... I've read some books where the "weaker" characters triumph over the "stronger" ones, but these stories are normally older books - Dickens etc...and not as much fantasy-based. But then again (I may get my head bitten off here by some), in the Twilight series, Bella is considered the "weak" character...and in the end, she finally gets what she wants, but she has to go through a lot to get to that point. If you haven't read the books, I'd recommend them...but it just feels a bit like the media portrays the stereotypical reader of Twilight, and the film's fan-base, as teenage girls...but I really disagree with this!! How will they transfer the scenes in the last book into the film I wonder...it gets a bit exotic...haha! Women in fiction seem to be getting stronger and more firm-willed...it's great to read :D
